Airline security is so stressful. There is no room for the benefit of the doubt. Have to get equiped with knowledge, safety products, abide to safety rules & try to enjoy the ride.

I think that those who make a living from aviation security, like the employees of TSA and its parent DHS, forget that the American people think and behave differently than they did before 9/11. Before then, the government actually told the flying public NOT to interfere with a hijacking, Be still and enjoy your trip to Cuba -- that is what most of the passengers and crew on the doomed flights of 9/11 thought they were doing. Today, things are different in the air. Americans who fly will attack and subdue anyone on an airplane who poses a threat to their safety.

Don't underestimate this change in the flying public's attitude and behavior. It is a BIG change, and it is real.

This poll actually insured that I won a bet wherein I proposed that modern Americans know so little about their actual history, that they are predominantly willing to give up every classic, American ideal of liberty. Historically, Americans defend and maintain their Liberty. So if, as a majority, we no longer believe that risking our lives for liberty is relevant, just exactly what nobility is left in calling one's self
an American?

I've already gone through the background checks - with the Nexus system, but I expect it won't help me with the baggage screening.

I think they should deploy the full body scanners - we do need to make sure risky items do not get onboard and I think it beats the manual inspections. The ACLU can go jump off a cliff. They seem to always get in the way whenever something is going to be more efficient.

J.Ed, of course you are bringing up the million-dollar "slippery slope" question, and it is a doozie of a question for sure. In a perfect world, no one wants to see our great American system and way of life compromised. But (playing devil's advocate if nothing else), it is unfortunately no longer a perfect world. I treasure my privacy but I also have nothing to hide. As someone who travels far and often, leaving 2 small kids at home, I'd have to say I'd be the first in line to submit to whatever background check or other scrutiny is needed to help ensure my safety when I am at 35,000 feet for so many hours and days each year.

Wow! Not many people are this enthusiast about there careers. Good for you. As an engineer who has spent most of his career in R&D, I agree that variety is a big factor in making your job interesting and enjoyable. If I had to do it over, I.D. would be on my list.............. Skooba is fortunate to have an employee like you!

Hey there, Handbags... thanks for commenting. We don't want to be immodest, but we are known for using the best possible materials (such as super-tough ballistic nylon) hardware (YKK zippers, Duraflex molded parts, etc.), and construction (multi-reinforced seams and stress points, fully-lined pockets, and so-on), so we are proud and confident in the way our bags our made and what they're made of. That's why we put a "no questions asked" warranty on them. They may cost a bit more than some other bags, but we have a favorite saying around here: "I'd rather explain the price than apologize for the quality." :-)
